How did this happen?
« on: February 06, 2010, 01:53:28 AM »
5 Star Recruit Demarco Cobbs (Central HS) Tulsa, OK will be a Longhorn :)  (http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=9&c=8&toinid=669&yr=2010)

It's nice to get an elite Oklahoma player on the UT roster for a change!

Cobbs is going to play RB for UT. OU wanted him as a Longhorn. And he didn't grow up in Oklahoma. He's only lived here for 2-3 years I think.

The question is, what happened to Mack Brown's, "I don't need to recruit nationally, all I need is Texas talent."

Did you come up with that? Because I don't remember him ever saying that,   :coolsmiley:
I paraphrased. but it was somethign along those lines. Like all he needed was texas talent to win championships. Then told all the HS coaches that he'll never take a non-Texan over a texan.

It was towards the beginning of his career at UT.

This all would be moot anyways if USC hadn't told Cobbs they didn't want him.

For some reason Tulsa is somewhat disconnected from the rest of the State. A lot of top talent has left to play else where from that area like Robert Meachem, Felix Jones, and Jerret Lake this year.

Texas, I don't remember the exact words, but it was more along the lines of Mack Brown emphasizing Texas-based recruiting as compared to John Macwhatever going national with his recruiting. Of course, with CP paraphrasing, recruiting any non-Texas player makes MB a liar :D

I remember a few years ago Texas got a high profile Oklahoma player from Jenks. White kid on defense but his name escapes me. He was a stud in h.s. but for what ever reason never did at thing at Texas.

You mean a high profile kid didn't pan out? But that never happens!

I don't know if Cobbs is a natural RB or not, but he definitely is a physical specimen. Texas got a good one.
