Just wondering...does Chadron State feel like they are in a different part of Nebraska?  You could split Colorado up into four seperate parts: eastern plains, front range, mountains, and the west slope.

I would say in Nebraska you have the panhandle, the sandhills, north east, south east and omaha

When I was in school I always told people from Colorado or small towns that Nebraska was essientially Omaha, Lincoln and the rest.

This goes to show how seven schools in the MIAA are closer than alot of RMAC schools for UNK.

I'd make the move if I was UNK too.  Those Division II conferences are more based on location and reasonable driving distances.

In today's world yes where most DII schools don't have the budgets of those in D1 so you need to be in the best geographical location that you can be. The money UNK will save they can put into scholarships accross the board in the athletic department.

A former Maverick wrestler coached me in HS ball.  I didn't see it coming either but Dr Tom said after the Big Ten move was announced, the money for Nebraska's schools would be harder to get from the state down the road.

Given the urban location of UNO, that school was going to have to make cuts in their athletic programs eventually and in those cases, football is usually the sport that gets the ax.

Good article that explains why the decision had to be made.

My school, Gallaudet University (D3 school) was the school that invented the huddle but I told people that cutting football there would make a lot of sense since the school is right in the middle of Washington, DC.  I will say this: college football is rarely sustainable in the urban core of those larger cities.  Men's soccer does make sense in those locations and a strong basketball team especially like George Mason who has no football program.

I love football a lot but it has to make sense for the school to have that sport.

I still have my doubts that Regents from the University of Nebraska told Trev and UNO they wouldn't vote to let them move up if they kept football. Coach Denney is a great guy and coach Berhns did a solid turn around with the Mavs program.

Some of the kids will be able to go to South Dakota since they will start MVFC play in 2012 and will need 10 more 'ships to give out.

What about UNI?  Those Dakota schools will eventually rule the MVFC...and the best bet to do it for the long term would be NDSU.

I did a quick look...it seems like only SDSU has a lot of Nebraska kids when it comes to the Dakota schools.  It'll be interesting to see how UND recruits since they will join the Big Sky Conference in 2012 or 2013.
