Californians dont have money to upgrade or build new sports facilities anywhere, private funding would have to come in.

Sounds good, as does the Kansas City Hornets either way.

http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/The_Baseline/entry/view/43088/lebron_james_plans_to_change_number,_asks_others_to_do_same_for_michael_jordan

LeBron James says he plans to change from no 23 to no 6 next season because he believes no 23 should be left alone due to MJ.

I don't think MJ had the type of impact on basketball that Jackie Robinson (his no 42 is retired by all teams) had on baseball but I can say that the NBA wouldn't be where it is at without MJ.

An interesting paragraph:

Quote
According to NBA rules, James has until March 5 to send a formal request to the league office to change his jersey number. That request, though, would only be pertinent if James re-signs with his hometown Cavs this summer. James is free to pick any available number if he signs with a new team for next season.

It could be obvious after March 5th of LeBron's intentions of who to sign with next summer.

This is what you get when two Texas-sized egos work together.  They are shooting for 100k fans for the 2010 NBA All-Star game at Cowboys Stadium.

Crushed all the attendance records with over 100,000 people there.  :o  Not surpirsed the East won. Anytime you have LeBron, DeWayne, and Howard on the floor at the same time your tough to beat. West is still much better as a whole though.

It's offical...LeBron will wear #6 next season.  The question is who will it be with?  By announcing the number, it seems like LeBron will stay with the Cavs.  If he wasn't going to stay with the Cavs, what would the point have been in changing the number?

It looks like Kevin Durant wants to become a franchise player in Oklahoma City.

http://www.newsok.com/kevin-durant-says-hell-sign-a-max-deal-if-thunder-offers-this-summer/article/3443827?custom_click=lead_story_title

Kevin Durant can sign a contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder anytime from the beginning of July to the end of October. The team will probably offer a maximum contract and Durant says he can't see how he could turn that down.

"Yeah, that's what I want to do," Durant told NBA FanHouse. "I want to be here. I want to be part of this organization."

"If they did offer that, that would be something that nobody could turn down," Durant added. "I would be blessed and privileged and honored. But, at the same time, I've got to keep working. ... It would be good (to sign this summer). To know that I can be with a team for a couple (more) years will be cool."

Okc is a better place to live than Cleveland and is the best kept secret in the Nba. Check out this clip from Jim Rome...

That's a funny video about Cleveland. A lot of cities up North have fallen on hard times. Okc is booming right now so we have been kind of imune to it.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/dan_shaughnessy/03/29/duncan.spurs/index.html?eref=sihp

Dan Shuaghnessy of SI says that Tim Duncan doesn't belong in the top 10 greatest NBA players.

He wrote:

Quote
Then again, learning that Duncan is only the fourth player in NBA history to scored 20,000 points with 10,000 rebounds, 2,000 blocks and 2,500 assists (alongside Kareem, Hakeem and Shaq) makes me take him much more seriously. It's like when you realize that Frank Thomas and Jim Thome are solidly ensconced in the 500 home run club.

AND

Quote
He is certainly the slow and steady fire. Except for 2001-02 when he scored 25.5 points per game, Duncan has always averaged between 18 and 24 points per game. The Spurs have been good for 53-63 wins in each of his seasons (save for the 1998-99 season that was cut short with the lockout). He's won four championships, been named MVP of the Finals three times and earned league MVP honors twice. He's the first player in NBA history to be named All-NBA and All-Defensive teams in each of his first 12 seasons.

What a crappy article by this SI writer.

This article is better: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1165279/index.htm?eref=sisf

Duncan is one of the best players I have seen in my lifetime and definetly would be in my top 10 list.

. But a source said Seattle is not going to land a new team until it addresses its arena situation. While the city is vibrant and its support remains strong, KeyArena is an albatross and having it would prohibit any team from ever recouping its $30-million relocation fee because it does not offer enough revenue-generating opportunities.

There in lies the problem. The people of Seattle could of steped up to keep the Sonics but voted against an updated arena. The people are not willing to pay for the Nba there so until the areana problem is addressed there will be no basketball there.

You have read my posts regarding Seattle sports fans...they do support their team but are unwilling to pay for it.  They nearly lost the Mariners and Seahawks too...losing one franchise and almost losing two others speaks loudly about the reputation of Seattle area fans.  I'm not sure if they are able to get the $$$ to refurbish Husky Stadium because sooner than later, without repairs, they will have to shut that place down too and put the Huskies in Qwest Field with the Seahawks.

Thunder @ Portland in a big game tonight. The loser gets to face the Lakers as the 8th seed. I don't think Okc wins tonight but honestly we match up better with L.A. than Portland, S.A., or Denver.

I didn't realize how good of a year OKC and Durant had this year.  They get 50 wins and still get the 8th seed...the West is stacked!

Okc doubled their win total from last year. With 2 more first round draft picks this year next year looks very promising.

Phil Jackson is already showing his concerns.  :D We get the freak show that is the Lakers.

Anyone paying attention to the LeBron saga?  First the Cavs fire the coach and the GM just left.  Does this mean LeBron is headed to New York?
