Wildcat Basketball

If I ever try to tell you that K-State has a good team this year, just stop me and say "Emporia State".

I went to the game last night and was thoroughly unimpressed. Well, I was impressed with the athleticism of the team, but unimpressed with their ability to defend and their ability to score in the half court. I'm hopeful that this will be a year of gaining experience, with almost everyone returning next year and adding some nice talent.

K-State posted a solid 69-59 win at Cleveland State tonight. Cleveland State doesn't sound like much, but they are the favorites to win the Horizon league and were favored to win this contest.

I think K-State will be among the jumble in the 5-10 positions in the Big 12 standings.

Before the season, I thought they could end up 6th. After watching them against Emporia State, I thought 9th.

Fortunately, for the teams in the North, the best three teams in the conference are in the South. I'd say that 5 of the 6 best teams in the conference are in the South, but there are plenty of wins available for North teams playing against each other.

The 'Cats handled Oakland the other night. Oakland will contend for a berth in the NCAA tourney by winning the Summit league. They beat Oregon earlier in the season.

Lynch, I'm sure you stayed up and watched the game like me.  What'd you think?  I think this team has a little fire in their belly.  Down by 17 in the second half, then pull within 2...Not bad, considering Meeks' unreal first half.  I still think this team finishes in the top half of the conference, provided they make continual improvement over the next month.

I didn't see the Kentucky game, though I was up quite late that night. It was nice to see a strong second half, but I don't think Kentucky is very good. It could be a game to grow on.

The Wildcats followed up the 2-point loss to Kentucky with a 2-point loss to Iowa.

OUCH!

The Vegas Tourney was followed by a 5-point loss on the road to Oregon. Very ugly game for the 'Cats.

K-State beat Southern Miss at the Sprint Center. I don't know a lot about USM except that they're coached by Larry Eustachy, they're not real big, and Frank Martin believes they're physical. Vegas picked KSU to win by 5 or 6 and they won by 19.

KSU just beat Gardner-Webb 107-48!  I know GW is 2-7, but they've played some teams close (3 pt. loss Virginia Tech/4 pt. loss to OU/15 pts. to S. Carolina--Not real close, but a lot closer than 59).  Not bad at all.

In K-State's last game before break, they beat Centennary. It was a sluggish start for the 'Cats, but they played aggressive defensively and started to hit shots after the first 8 minutes. Darren Kent had a career-high scoring game.

In their first game back from break, the 'Cats jumped all over the Wagner Seahawks. K-State was up 30-5 early, and hung on from there.

K-State put a beat down on a salty Idaho State team today, 83-57.

The Bengals may not sound like a quality win, and their record isn't very good, but when you look at what they've done game-by-game you'll see a decent team. Most notably, they lost by just two at Wisconsin.

I think K-State is going to cause some people problems with their athleticism.  I say 3rd or 4th in Big 12  :uglystupid2:

I think all places from about 3rd to 9th are up for grabs. This league is not that good this year. Oklahoma and Texas are head and shoulders above the rest.

K-State beat Chicago State 99-68. Lots of minutes for lots of players in this one.

Big 12 play starts with Oklahoma coming to Manhattan on Saturday.

That is a tough way to start Big 12 season.

Somebody has to play the best team in the league on opening day. At least it's at home.

Yeah, and the next 10 days are @ KU, @ NU, vs. BU before we get a break and go to CU...

The 'Cats opened Big 12 play with a nice effort, but a loss at home to Oklahoma. The schedule-makers didn't do them any favors. Next up: @KU, @NU, BU, @CU. Hosting Missouri on 01/28 will be the first conference home game against a team that's not currently ranked.

'Cats lost 87-71 at KU. Not a terrible score after starting the game down 0-18. :/

Yeesh.  Not a good start indeed. It seems like K-State is giving good effort.  Tough part is that their schedule could send them to 0-5 (maybe 0-6) to start conference play and that would be a huge shot to their confidence I'd think.

Rock chalk!  Ku played well again at home.  Hope they keep it up and win some on the road

Location seems to be a big deal for these young teams. Compare how K-State came out of the gate at home against OU to the start of the KU game.
