CU Football Class of 2009
« on: November 17, 2008, 08:28:32 PM »
CU has nine known orals to date.  One four star prospect, four three star prospects, two 2* prosepcts, and one unrated prospect.

The four star prosepct is actually a JUCO prospect.  Knowing how hard it is for JUCOs to qualify for CU, I wouldn't be holding my breath over that.

Nick Kasa, undoubtly the #1 recruiting target for CU fans, has committed to Florida.  The Scout 5* (Rivals 4*) prospect just informed UF's Meyer and CU's Hawkins of his decision.  From what I have read about Kasa, his family and himself lived in Florida when he was a very young kid before moving to Colorado.  This was said to be a difficult decision for him (I'd have gone to Florida since I'm more of a warm weather guy myself).

I'm slowly getting back to following CU's recruiting class after I have washed off the bad taste of the 2008 season.  Here's what I'm seeing on the CU side of things.  CU is battling Oregon over two 4* WRs.

Byrce McNeal, a 4* WR out of Minnesota, has brought four hats with him to San Antonino: Clemson, CU, Minnesota, and Oregon.  He will make his choice during the US Army HS All Star Game.

Diante Jackson, a 4* WR out of California is a soft commit to Oregon but he's torn between the Ducks and the Buffs.  Jackson is on the front page of CU's Rivals page saying "I love Colorado".  His mother and grandmother seem to want him to go to Oregon since CU is a hard academic school.

If both manage to give orals to CU, that gives the Buffs three 4* rated WRs for the '09 class and that would be huge for the Buffs going into 2009 if all three qualify for CU.

There seems to be a good number of 3* rated players who are interested in CU as well.

It seems like WRs will be headlining the 2009 CU class.

I'm baffled that these top WRs want to play for such shitty QBs.

I'm sure those top WRs should make Cody Hawkins look better.  ;D

http://www.buffzone.com/news/2009/jan/02/four-star-receiver-commits-to-buffs/

Diante Jackson, one of the two 4* WR prospects CU is after just switched from Oregon to the Buffs.  Now time to work on that other 4* prospect!  The Buffs would finally have the playmakers at the skill positions...QB play just has to improve for the Buffs!

GO BUFFS!

Good pick-up for CU.  OL still needs a lot of work too.

Injuries hurt CU's OL last season.  They got a OL prospect or two for the 2009 class.  If we land McNeal, the other 4* WR, this is going to end up being a very good class and what that would do is give CU depth at just about every position on offense.

Looks like McNeal is choosing CU...I mean Clemson...  ;D  That's a bummer but it seems like we still got three good WRs at this point.

CU isn't known to get many recruits committed until January and Feburary...that number will go up shortly.

Also the class is most likely not going to be that great because CU was a very young team last season and a lot of young ones got some exprience so basically Hawkins is recruiting players who will be willing to be backups for at least a couple of seasons before having a shot at starting or even serious playing time.

I talked about his family pushing him towards Oregon.  Both Rivals and Scouts still show Jackson as a CU commit.

It may just be rumors at this point but it seemed pretty certain.

Also, I saw CU lost one of their 3-star DE recruits as well.  Things in Boulder aren't exactly looking up.

There is rumor (seriously) that 5* DE Nick Kasa who is committed to UF might change his mind and stay close to home (Broomfield is 9 miles away down US 36 from Boulder).  Florida is loaded at defense and it seems like Urban Meyer has been talking to Kasa about moving to OL or TE.  After Kasa had a monster performance during his week at the US Army HS All Star game in SA, he has got to be having second thoughts about going to UF if he might not even be playing DE there while at CU, he will play DE no questions asked.

Scout shows that Kasa did decide to stay home and so he could play DE.

CU also picked up 3* DT Edward Nuckols who had offers from Arizona, Arizona St., Minnesota, and San Diego St.  CU was the only school he visited so it looked like a lock from the get start.

Overall, a great weekend for CU's DL.

I was about to go to the CU Rivals site...that sounds like great news.  I don't blame Kasa because he really had a huge shot of confidence after a great week in SA for the US Army All-Star game.

I felt very confident that CU would get Nuckols and after I read last week that Kasa was still committed to the Gators but still talking to CU coaches and coming off his performance in the US Army AA game, I knew a switch was likely coming.  UF wanted Kasa to move to TE or even the OL and I guess that wasn't what Kasa wanted to do.

I believe there is some recruiting momentum for the Buffs right now...there are at least another 4* player or two that people are saying are silent CU committs.

CU also might see Jack Harris, a 3* prospect who has committed to the Buffs get one more *.

Taken from a post on Rivals...

Quote
Ben Burney- starter, sat out last season to have 5 surgeries
Jake Behrens- starting FB
Marcus Burton- Backup LB
Pat Devenny- 3rd string TE
Matt DiLalo- Punter
Riar Geer- Starting TE
Devin Head- Starting Guard, but may be backup this year
Taj Kaynor- Backup DT
Kevin Moyd- 6th String RB
Nate Solder (RS JR) Starting LT
Eric Lawson (RS JR) Backup DT

These are the players left that committed to Gary Barnett on the team. As you can see, we don't have a whole lot of seniors.

That's not very many Barnett players left.

With Kasa locked up for the black and gold, that means Dan Hawkins has nabbed the top rated Colorado prospect three years in a row.  I have read somewhere that Hawk has locked down two of the top three the last few years as well.  This is something that I have ranted against Barnett for a long time and that was the inability to close the Colorado borders when it came to the top Colorado kids.

There is talk that Emory Blake, a 4* WR who de-committed from TT in mid-December is down to the Buffs and Red Raiders.  Given that an OU commit just switched his pledge to TT, there's a good chance that Blake could sign with CU.

CU's class is starting to heat up indeed.

That's funny.  I was talking with one of Blake's coaches, who is one of my friends, last fall and he said the Colorado coaches visited.  I told him to make sure to tell Blake to not go to Colorado.  He just chuckled, but I know he didn't relay my message.

Why did Blake decommit from Tech?  I figured he would have been a good fit in that offense.  I know his original commit was emotional and came as a surprise after Tech just beat UT.  Now that the emotion wore off, he probably feels that he needs to reassess.

It seems like the Rivals people might have listed him as a TT-commit by mistake when he was still down to both TT and CU and they basically fixed that, hence the de-commitment.

Jack Harris got another star so CU has one more 4* player and one less 3* player.

If you wanted to know which player I would be excited about watching...it'd be Parker Orms.  That kid can fly at the safety position!  You should check out his highlight videos...I'm looking forward to many fearless plays from this kid.  The hits start around the 55 second mark.
