I'm a supporter of gay marriage...or at least civil unions.

I do not agree with that.  God didn't design men to sick their tools in another man's ass.

We won't go there...just let it be known I am an ally to the gay community...don't want to argue about it.

I respect your opinion about equal rights...there are some areas where equal rights doesn't benefit society as a whole.

Right now 47% of the votes are in and it looks like Prop 8 will pass because some counties in the LA area are already posting large percentages in favor of Prop 8 and not that many votes have been counted.  It looks like it will pass for certain.

Looks like 51% of precients have reported and the percentages hasn't really changed that much.

That would be a huge win not only for California but the rest of the nation as well.  Anti-gay marriage advocates in Massachusetts would be emboldened to do a similar ballot down the road.

95% of precients are reporting and it's still 52-48%.  Riveride and San Bernardio counties are still counting their ballots but it looks like Prop 8 will pass in CA.  This would be the second time that an amendment was voted in to ban gay marriage in CA's history.  Two times should be enough.

From what I understand, the first one was to allow gay marriage.  It didn't pass.

So the liberal who failed on his first attempt tried a 2nd attempt using stronger language (banning gay marriage) in hopes that it wouldn't pass and open the door for homosexuality in the wedding chapels.

It is basically the same thing, but he was hoping that rewording it would make a difference.  I'm glad to see it didn't, but it was a lot closer.

Nope, the first one was to define marriage as an union between man and woman.  It was called Prop 22 in the 2000 election.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Same-sex_marriage_in_California

The wording says that gay couples would not have the right to marry.  But I read that what convinced Californians to support such a thing would be that if gay marriage was to remain, teachers in public schools would have to tell students that it's okay to have gay marriage and all kinds of stuff that would encourage such acts.

Prop 22 passed with 61% of the vote back in 2000.

Another thing is that many younger voters support gay marriage while older ones are against it.  This Prop 8 vote might just only delay the inevitable for a decade or two.

The gay marriage ban has been passed.  The courts will have to determine whether the gay marriage licenses are still valid but California voters have just told the San Francisco mayor that shoving their leftist crap down their throats is just not acceptable.

I feel an advocate for gay marriage is an enemy to the sanctity of marriage.

While marriage is looked at today by many as just another legal contract, then support for gay marriage doesn't surprise me.  However, that is not how marriage was designed.  Marriage is actually a covenant with God and not just a contract with the state.

That's the truth.  There will be some who don't want to hear the truth or simply against it.

I don't give a damn what they call it as long as they have the same rights.

I'm not religious so what you're saying doesn't mean jack to me.

(applause)

If not marriage, give them civil unions. Equal rights ought to be given though, and like MIZ, I don't give a #### what it's called.

With all the people who get divorced in this country, I laugh at the sanctity of marriage argument.

I guess it's the final say on this issue.  People will be for one thing while others will be against that one thing.  We have our reasons.

I'm going to lock this thread and throw away the key (the mods do have duplicates anyway).
