Well guess that Carl was trying to throw people off at the Monday press conference when asked.

Not really sure what this would really mean to the defensive strategy. I'm pretty sure Bo calls about 90% if not more, of the plays. I want Barney Cotton gone more than anything.

Hopefully Bo can convince Carl to take him with but the problem is that all three of Barney's kid will soon be on the roster (two sons currently and another is a senior at LSE, Lincoln Southeast for you non-Nebraskans)

Carl to FAU is definitely not good news for NU. His defenses have really been a key in Huskers resurgence to respectability. Also, he out-recruits his brother.

I'm surprised he settled on FAU.  I would think he'd be a viable candidate at some bigger jobs.

I honestly thought that he'd go to Akron being from Ohio and the job is open once again, he was rumored the last time it was open. The loss of Carl will be felt out west where he had alot of contacts in California and those JUCOs.

Dirk Chatelin ponders the replacements right here: http://sports.omaha.com/2011/12/02/dirks-brunch-bites-dec-2/
The OWH looked up current salaries in the Sun Belt: http://sports.omaha.com/2011/12/02/range-of-sun-belt-salaries/

I did not know that. Interesting opportunity for FAU; recruiting California as well as Fla.

Now it becomes interesting to see who goes with him and who is brought it because Nebraska needs to keep a presence in California and Florida.

FAU, with recruiting, could dominate the Sun Belt. I think that's what Carl is banking on.

Very good movie indeed.

I'm really not that down about losing Carl, I knew it was bound to happen. I still believe Bo calls the shots on defense anyway, but yeah...Barney needs to go before anyone else did.

CBS sports is saying --

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/163 48968/mike-stoops-interested-in-nebraska-dc-job

OMAHA, Neb. -- Former Arizona coach Mike Stoops says he would consider the Nebraska defensive coordinator's job if it is offered to him.

Huskers coach Bo Pelini has to fill the opening left when his brother, Carl, left to become head coach at Florida Atlantic.

Stoops said Tuesday he would be interested in either a coordinator or head coaching job. He declined to comment on whether Bo Pelini had discussed a job at Nebraska with him.

Stoops said he watched Nebraska three or four times on television and is impressed with the Cornhuskers' defensive system.

Arizona fired the 49-year-old Stoops halfway through his eighth season after the Wildcats got off to a 1-5 start.

The Pelini and Stoops families are close friends from their days in Youngstown, Ohio.

That hasn't been announced but I guess it wouldn't surprise me but if it happens it be in title only unlike bringing in someone who would actually call the plays.

This would only help confirm my theory that M. Stoops is going to Iowa as DC.

Well I don't think that anyone should be too shocked here that John Papuchis (33 years old) has been elevated to defensive cordinator and Rick Kaczenski comes over from Iowa to coach the defensive line. I really don't have a huge problem with this hire (and I think it shows Bo will continue to call plays unless he will go full-CEO) because its typical of what Bo has done promote from within. Kaczenski coming over from Iowa is a surprise plus it could weaken the Hawkeyes which I'm sure many Husker fans myself included don't have a problem with.

This is a good move, IMO. Papuchis has been a bit underwhelming as a DL coach, whereas this Kaz guy has produced quite a few NFLers. Bo calls the shots on D anyways, so moving Pap up will do nothing but help his career.
