Bone, if it were just this year, I might think so, but look at the last few years for us:
2005 A&M finished 21-10, 8-8 in conference and gets left out of tournament. Iowa State finishes 9-7 just ahead of A&M and gets a 9 seed.
2006 A&M finished 22-9, 10-6 in conference and gets a 12 seed. OU finishes just ahead of A&M at 11-5 and gets a 6 seed.
2007 A&M finished 27-7, 13-3 in conference and gets a 3 seed. KU finishes just ahead of A&M at 14-2 and gets a 1. A&M also draws Louisville in Lexington in the second round.
2008 A&M goes 8-8 in conference and gets a 9 seed. This was a very fair seeding.
2009 A&M finished 24-10, 9-7 in conference and gets a 9 seed. We finished tied with t.u. and OSU that year. They got 7 and 8 seeds respectively.
2010 A&M finished 24-10, 11-5 in conference and gets a 5 seed. We finished tied with KSU and Baylor who got a 2 and a 3 seed respectively.
2011 A&M finishes 24-8, 10-6 in conference. We get a 7 seed while schools like Xavier and Cincy whose resumes are nowhere near as good as ours in a blind test, get 6 seeds.
Apparently not having a "basketball name" really hurts you in the selection because the committee has no problem dicking you over for a team whose name they think will draw better ratings.
In this year's case, I'm almost certain they made us the 7 seed so Georgetown wouldn't have to face a BE foe (ND) in the second round.
