« on: March 13, 2011, 03:17:15 AM »
Thoughts?

I see the Big 12 coming out like this.
KU - 1
UT - 2
ATM - 6
KSU - 6
MU - 8
CU - 12

Other 1's, Duke/UNC, tOSU, PITT.

I think Colorado will be in the 8-11 range after their showing this week in KCMO.

Ditto with what 'Loper said...I think CU will be higher than 12...just slightly.

I think Joe Lunardi had CU predicted as an 11 seed.    If so,t hey'll be a tough matchup for a 6 seed somewhere.   If the dynamic duo is on, they're going to be hard to handle.

KU did a nice job holding Higgins to 1-11 shooting in the semifinals.

You can't really go by the results against KU.   The Jayhawks have now beat the Buffs 18 straight times and 52 of the last 54.   I wouldn't be surprised if CU never schedules KU again.   I definitely think CU is the type of team that can win a game or two if it gets in the right bracket.   I always like the 10-12 seeds better that the 8/9.  The 8/9 winner is the quickest (besides the 16) to see the No. 1 seed.  Other teams in the country are not going to be used to seeing Burks and Higgins the way the Big 12 teams are, and if Knudson is hitting from the outside, CU is tough.   I also like the freshman Roberson.   He is going to be good one in the PAC 12.

CU may have played their way up to an 11, but 8 is ridiculous.

I like K-State's matchups in the latest Lunardi Bracket.... #11 Michigan State and then #3 BYU.

LM but the 8-9 is also a mark of teams who got in last

Huh? No. the 12s are usually the last teams in, and those teams are where the "play-in" 1st round games will happen this year.

I know the NCAAs are not something that Nebraska fans are intimately familiar with. ;)

Colorado being left out with wins over UT, MU, and KSU x 3 is just atrocious.

And USC got in even if they had two less wins than CU in the PAC-10.

LOL

I guess Huskers fans were right about Beebe playing dirty with the departing schools.

The Big 12 didn't get a lot of love. I felt like Texas, Missouri and A&M were all under-seeded. K-State got a good deal with the #5, but a tough-looking Utah St. team at 30-3.

I personally feel Colorado got screwed when teams like USC got in. It's unclear what the selection committee didn't like about the Big 12 this season, which was ranked as the 3rd best conference all season long.

it seems like a lot of non-CU fans are really sympathizing with CU fans at the moment which is nice.  I hope CU wins the NIT and takes it out on the PAC-12 next year.

CU got screwed big time. How can you have 3x wins vs a 5 seed and not make it in? Of course I think everyone in the Big 12 got jobbed except for KU and KSU (KSU should have been a 6). Everyone else got a seed at least one or two spots higher than what they deserved and everyone but KU seemed to get the worst possible match up they could have in the first round.

Is the NCAA trying to send the B12 a message? Is this payback for nearly blowing up the college sports world this past summer?

I think we just had a bad selection committee this time around.  No messeges being sent.    There is no explanation for including UAB, or VCU in the field.  Colorado should definitely have made it, at least to a play-in game, but I suppose you could justify their exclusion by their bad RPI and bad non-con schedule (and results).   Still I think they performed well enough during the conference season to make up for the non-con.   I also agree that everyone got underseeded and overall the Big 12 was disrespected.

Edit:    Also, I find it strange that Baylor who right up until the conference tournament was thought to be in the NCAA's didn't even get an NIT bid.

Baylor's clout probably fell significantly without Perry Jones.

Colorado is better than USC, Clemson, UAB, and VCU.

I really dislike K-State's draw. A 30-3 Utah State team will give them all they want and more. If they survive that it's like Wisconson, who beat tOSU this year.

Loper, do you still believe that 8/9s really are the last teams in?

Here's a link to the final regular season AP poll of the season.        http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rankings

Utah St. is ranked above K-State, has a better RPI, and is several spots ahead of KSU in Kenpom's ratings.   They along with Texas are the most underseeded teams in the bracket.   K-State is probably a bit overseeded.

Aggie and Tiger fans are upset about how underseeded they feel like and on some boards some sources are saying that there is proof that Beebe did torpedo CU's chances at the NCAA Tourney.  Those Aggie and Tiger fans are saying they got underseeded as a response to last summer's conference drama.
