The non-conference schedule is highlighted by playing Gonzaga and Marquette or Duke in Kansas City, playing at Washington State, playing Florida at the Orange Bowl Classic, and UNLV in Kansas City. All great games, and all away from the Octagon. I hope that's good tournament preparation. I think this team is clearly a league championship contender, should expect to make the Sweet 16, and has a real chance to make the Final Four.

Season tips-off tonight against the James Madison Dukes.

Jamar Samuels got zero minutes in exhibition play.
Curtis Kelly hasn't stepped into his role as the team's #2 player.
Wally Judge may take that spot as the #2 threat.
Rodney McGruder is an athletic swing player that can shoot from outside.

A rather un-inspiring 75-61 win for the 'Cats. Curtis Kelly did not play. Presumably an in-house suspension for lack of effort, not "buying in", being in the doghouse, etc.

K-State hosts Virginia Tech this afternoon. Curtis Kelly won't play, again, today.
VaTech was 25-9 last season and returns four seniors one junior starter. They're not real big inside, but they're long at the guard positions. This is a real tough test for the second game of the season.

The game against vt will be tough without Kelly. They start 4 seniors and a junior. Should be a good test. On a side note, I scored 2 tix and a parking pass for this game from a friend who has to work. Hells yeah!

With just 14 minutes total for Pullen and Kelly, a 73-57 win over VaTech.

K-State struggled to top the Presbyterian College Blue Hose, last night. PC made 9/15 3-point shots. It was a good shooting night, and a defensive effort lacking hustle to close out on shooters.

K-State won't lose many games when it scores 76 points, though.

K-State beat Emporia State. Jacob Pullen became K-State's all-time leader in 3-point makes.

'Cats play @Washington State later in the week.

K-State's game at Wazzu was indicative of who they are at this point in the season.

Good team defense
Great rebounding
Terrible FT shooting
Too many turnovers

The 'Cats also fought through another game where Jacob Pullen scored in single digits.

'Cats crush Alcorn State and Frank Martin couldn't be more upset.

Can't really blame him.  This team has a long way to go to prove they deserve that number by their name.  The talent is there, no doubt about it.  They need to wake up and start playing like Frank wants or they will never realize their potential.

Jacob Pullen gets to return to Chicago to play a good Loyola team, today.

'Cats didn't play very well, but won in Chicago.

Next game is against Florida, on a "neutral" court in Florida. Following that, UNLV comes to Kansas City. 'Cats will have to play better than they've played in any game since VaTech to win either of these games.

Ugly loss v. Florida. 'Cats didn't really play terribly, aside from not being able to point the ball in the basket. K-State had a 1-for-23 from the field stretch.

A lot of Big 12 teams are used to playing a Monday game right after playing on Saturday as part of the ESPN Big Monday package.    Apparently not so for the SEC as Florida just lost to Jacksonville after beating KSU on Saturday.

The 'Cats have lost to most of the good teams they've played in the non-conference schedule. Certainly, the surprise of playing without Kelly and Pullen hurt them in the UNLV game.

Since then, they've beaten up on the bad opponents. Pullen scored 24 in his first game back from suspension. Kelly still has two games to sit. He's on a very short leash, and could quickly be removed from the team if any further discipline is necessary.

I believe playing without Pullen may have made some of the other parts of this team better. The 'Cats will be a contender in the conference, but shouldn't be favored to win it.

I agree that the suspension may have been a blessing in disguise.   Pullen seems to be playing with new energy and the other guys have improved as well.

We're still missing a solid point guard. Russell started the last game, but Spradling played more minutes... as did Irving.

Judge and Samuels have stepped forward while Kelly has been out and Asprilla has been ill.

ESPN reports a fan is yelling "This one is on you Frank!" at the end of the Buffs game.  Is this just a weirdo or is this sentiment spreading in Manhattan?

I haven't seen the second half of the game. I do know that early in the game, K-State was pounding the ball inside and scoring effectively. That didn't continue through the second quarter of the game.

I know there is some sentiment that Frank's always mad, no room for error, approach is tired and losses its affect with time.

I was disappointed to see the playing rotation... that is, Frank goes too deep into the bench for too many minutes. I feel like Frank would rather build a team than win games. That may prove useful in the Big 12 and NCAA tournament, but K-State has lost any chance at winning the regular season title.

Sick mother, went to play pro ball in Puerto Rico...That is what is being reported.  However, I did see where someone said that Curtis Kelly supposedly said Friday was the hardest practice of his life.  Asprilla couldn't take it and quit.  Either way, good luck to him.  I certainly don't have any ill will toward him.  We're going to need at least one more big man to step it up quick-like though.  Either Judge or JHR.

Maybe Frank Martin's "passion" is starting to wear on people? Things don't seem right in Aggieville lately.

It's possible that type of motivation only goes so far. Judge didn't practice Friday, so he didn't get to play Saturday, though Frank said he could have.

A win in Columbia tonight would make things seem a lot better in a hurry.
